Tagane (chisel) and Kisage (scraper) are used to carve and shape metal in Japan. They can be used to create tools for uchidashi (the Japanese form of chasing and repousse) or for carving/engraving tools.
These hand forged tool steel tagane and kisage blanks have been imported from Japan. They are unhardened and need to be shaped and heat treated. They can be shaped with files or stones, and hardened by heating the tips to red hot and quenching in water. Temper to 350f or to a straw yellow color.
The double taper makes them very ergonmic to hold. The tagane come in two shapes square and rectangle, and in the sizes #4 and #5 (the two largest sizes the manufaturer makes.
The #4 is roughly 98mm long and the rectangular tip is 1.5x5mm, and the square tip roughly 1.5-2mm sqaure
The #5 is roughly 103mm long and the rectangular tip is 2x5.5mm, and the square tip roughly 2.5-3mm sqaure
The kisage are roughly 160mm long and the rectangular tips are roughly 1.5x6mm
